Health & Safety

We are excited to welcome our ARS families for the 2021-2022 school year

A Message from the ARS Health & Safety Committee:

November 8, 2021 Mask Policy Update

The ARS Board of Directors met on Monday, November 8th for their regularly scheduled board meeting.  The Health & Safety Committee presented their monthly report and made a recommendation to continue Plan II (masks required).  The Board of Directors reviewed the need to extend the mandatory mask policy that was set to end on Wednesday, November 10th. Following discussions with the Iredell County Health Department, and a presentation by the ARS Health & Safety Committee on continuing high levels of COVID-19 transmission in our region, the Board of Directors voted that American Renaissance School will continue the temporary Plan II mask policy until Wednesday, December 15th, which requires masks for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors when indoors. The ARS Health & Safety Committee will continue to evaluate local and school data and will make a recommendation on whether or not to require masks past that date at the regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, December 13th at 5:30 PM.

Under Plan II, American Renaissance School will require all children, staff, and faculty on both campuses to wear face coverings consistently when indoors (regardless of vaccination status). In addition:

  • Masks will be optional for students and faculty when outside
  • Masks will not be required when a student is actively eating or drinking
  • Mask breaks will be incorporated into each school day
  • All visitors will be required to wear a mask (regardless of vaccination status)
  • Masks will be required by both students and faculty during school transportation

Wellness Days Announcement

Per the recommendation of the Health & Safety Committee, the Board of Directors is establishing Monday, November 22nd and Tuesday, November 23rd as Wellness Days for students and staff.  We know that there is a current mental health crisis in our nation’s schools, which is also affecting the students and staff at American Renaissance School.  These Wellness Days will be used as “mental health” days for students and staff.  We are hopeful that giving our students and staff the entire week of Thanksgiving off will help support their mental health and wellness.  The board agreed and voted to approve this recommendation.

The Health & Safety Committee suggests that staff and students spend their wellness days taking care of their mental health and wellness by participating in one of the following activities:

  • Social-Emotional Learning Activities

  • Kindness Instructional Activities

  • Random Acts of Kindness

Links and more information on suggested activities will be sent to families prior to our school wellness days.
