Give Five — Read Five

Beginning Monday, May 4, ARS will participate in the statewide Give Five – Read Five campaign to keep all students reading over the summer. Families and community members are encouraged to donate 5 or more new or gently used books to ARS so that all students can select books to take home on the last day of school. Research from Harvard University suggests that reading at least 5 books helps students better retain literacy skills over the summer, particularly when parents/caregivers read with their children.

Between now and May 27, please send books into school with your student and place them in donation bins at the entrance to the elementary and middle buildings. Each student who donates 5 or more books gets a prize!

On the last day of school (May 29, 7:30-9:00 a.m.), all students may stop by the elementary board room to select books to take home for the summer. A representative from the Iredell Public Library will also be there to sign up students for the library summer reading program, where they can participate in summer activities (e.g., LEGO contest, magicians, and more!) and earn prizes.

Volunteers from ARS and the Statesville Woman’s Club are generously donating their time for this project. Thank you for your help!

Donation deadline: Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Book selection / library summer reading program sign-up: Friday, May 29, 7:30-9:00 a.m., Elementary Building Board Room
