About Drop Off & Pick Up in Downtown

Navigating Downtown Statesville

Safety is our top priority in the mornings and afternoons. Please follow all applicable traffic laws. If you are unable to turn in to the car lines, do NOT stop on Broad Street or Tradd Street to wait; it is unlawful to block traffic. You must circle the block and come back around. If you are walking, utilize crosswalks instead of jaywalking. The Statesville Police Department may issue tickets for stopping in the roadway or parking in a no-parking zone prior to dismissal. Please don't stop early!

If you are parking in downtown and walking to the school, be sure to park only in public parking areas. Local businesses that own their parking lots will tow unauthorized vehicles. In particular, avoid parking in the City Center parking lot or using it as a cut-through to Cooper Street. City Center will tow unauthorized vehicles.

K-5 Drop-Off

K-5 Drop-Off is from 7:30-7:55 am. During this time, you may drive through the car line to drop your student off with one of our staff members. Car line staff will assist your student in exiting the vehicle and ensure they make it in the door safely. Please work with your child to teach them how to buckle and unbuckle as this will help keep things moving.

If you or another family member typically walk your student to school, please walk your student to the main entrance on East Broad Street. Walk-ups are not permitted at the back door / in the car line for any reason. When walking through Downtown Statesville to ARS, please utilize crosswalks and follow all rules of the road. We understand this may add time to your commute; however, it's essential for student safety, and it's the law!

Please do not drop students off at the back door if there is nobody there to greet you. If this is the case, you will need to escort your student to the main entrance on East Broad Street and sign them in. Students should not be dropped off unattended. If you are arriving after 7:55 am, you will need to sign your student in at the front office.

6-8 Drop-Off

6-8 Drop-Off is from 7:30-7:55 am. During this time, you may drive through the car line on Cooper Street to drop your student off at the back door. Please note that the back door is locked promptly at 7:55 am. Students arriving after 7:55 am must be signed in at the front desk by a parent or guardian.

If your student typically walks or bikes to school, they may enter through the front or back doors. There is a public bike rack located on the sidewalk in front of the middle campus. Students who are walking or biking to school should be careful to follow all applicable traffic laws. Always use a cross-walk to cross streets downtown.

K-5 Pick-Up

K-5 Pick-Up begins at 2:45 for K-2 students and at 3:00 for 3-5 students. It ends at 3:15. We use the PikMyKid app for afternoon dismissal. This app allows our teachers to quickly see how a student is being dismissed (walker, car line, or afterschool), so they can ensure students arrive in the correct location for dismissal.

If you wish to walk up to pick up your student, please indicate in the PikMyKid app that your student is a walker. Changes can be permanent, one-time, or recurring. Changes must be entered no later than 2:00 pm on the day of the change. We are unable to accommodate last-minute changes, and as a result, you may be asked by walker area dismissal staff to return to your vehicle and go through the car line. Please note that you must present a car tag either on paper or digitally for your student to be released. No walk-ups are permitted at the back door or in the car line area at any time.

If you wish to utilize car line, please indicate in the PikMyKid app that your student is a car rider. Changes can be permanent, one-time, or recurring. Changes must be entered no later than 2:00 pm on the day of the change. We are unable to accommodate last-minute changes, and as a result, you may be asked by car line staff to park your vehicle and walk to the walker dismissal area on East Broad Street. Please note that you must present a car tag either on paper or digitally for your student to be released. Parents arriving without a car tag will need to present photo identification and may have to wait until dismissal is over to have their ID verified. Please do not enter the car line until 2:45 pm, and remember that you must circle the block if you are unable to pull into the alley.

If you wish to help us with dismissal efficiency, you may "Announce" your arrival in the PikMyKid app when you walk up to the walker door or enter car line. One of our staff will confirm your arrival and location in line when they see your car tag. Students cannot be released until your announcement has been confirmed by a staff member.

If you wish to delegate pick-up to another individual, please indicate this change in the PikMyKid app no later than 2:00pm on the day of the change. Changes can be permanent, one-time, or recurring. You will need to enter the individual's name, email address, and cell phone number. Once you have delegated pick-up, give the individual your car tag or instruct them to register for the PikMyKid app to access the digital car tag.

2020 Changes to Car Line

As of January 6th, 2020, we have made a change to the traffic pattern for our elementary campus car line. In an effort to send less cars around the block, we have been working with the Statesville Police Department (SPD) to improve the safety and efficiency of carline.

  1. You must take Front Street when accessing Tradd Street (this is the opposite of our previous process).

  2. Instead of turning left into the alley behind the school, you will be directed by SPD to turn right into our parking lot on Tradd St (the area where the elementary has PE).

  3. You will then proceed to the back of the lot, take a U-Turn to the left and return to the entrance. This will allow us to stack more cars off of the main road and avoid sending you around the block.

  4. When directed by the SPD, you will cross Tradd Street into the alley behind the school to pick up your student.

6-8 Pick-Up

6-8 Pick-Up begins at 3:15 pm on Cooper Street behind the middle campus. Please do not enter the middle campus car line prior to 3:15 pm. When entering the car line, be sure to stay on the right side of Cooper Street and avoid blocking driveways. If you also pick up from the K-5 car line, please do not enter the 6-8 car line directly; circle the block and enter the rear of the line. The middle campus also uses the PikMyKid app for dismissal.

If your student will walk or bike home, please indicate they will be a walker in the PikMyKid app. Students will not be released on their own under any circumstances unless they are marked as walkers in PikMyKid by a parent. Changes can be permanent, one-time, or recurring. Changes must be entered no later than 2:00 pm on the day of the change. Additionally, please note that middle campus students who are walking or biking from dismissal must travel directly home or to a parent's place of business; they may not wander downtown unattended.

If you wish to utilize car line, please indicate in the PikMyKid app that your student is a car rider. Changes can be permanent, one-time, or recurring. Changes must be entered no later than 2:00 pm on the day of the change. Please note that you must present a car tag either on paper or digitally for your student to be released. Parents arriving without a car tag will need to present photo identification and may have to wait until dismissal is over to have their ID verified. Please do not enter the car line until 3:15 pm, and remember that you must circle the block if you are exiting the K-5 line or if you are unable to pull into the alley.

If you wish to help us with dismissal efficiency, you may "Announce" your arrival in the PikMyKid app when you walk up to the front office or enter the car line.

App Registration & Help

If you need to register for the parent app, please follow these instructions. Your mobile phone number entered during registration must match what the school has on file. If it does not match, you will be unable to access settings for your student.

If you need help with the PikMyKid app, email [email protected]. They will be able to assist you more effectively and efficiently than ARS staff can.
