Welcome to Social Studies with Mr. Griffith

Social Studies covers a host of subjects rolled into one mosaic.  All grades use technology, study economics and culture, and delve into both the hidden and famous aspects of history.  6th grade focuses on familiar Europe and neighboring Latin America; 7th grade explores mysterious Africa and massive Asia; and 8th grade undertakes a simultaneous survey of both North Carolina and its parent, the United States.

Reading, writing, film, drama (in skits and plays), art, music, and computers all help us to learn about these times and places.  If you have anything that would further enrich any of these classes (picture slideshows, items you collect from another country, food of another culture, etc.) please let Mr. Griffith know.

Social Studies Office Hours:  Thursdays from 3:00 - 3:45

Please send a note or email letting me know that your child is staying with me.

Films Used in Social Studies

Below are the films/programs used for viewing in Social Studies.  Both the rating (if one exists; some educational programs do not have a rating) and the reasons we watch are included.  All programs are not used each year.  Movies rated above PG are carefully scrutinized and/or edited for content.  If you have any questions or concerns about a program, please email Mr. Griffith at griffithd@arsnc.org and he will gladly address your concerns/questions.
