Language Arts Overview
In Language Arts we study and learn numerous concepts. We acquire analytical knowledge through activities in the Daybook, a journal portfolio of written thought. Students read various literary genres while focusing on specific terms and concepts of analysis. Writing, grammar, and vocabulary are also examined throughout the year in correlation to Daybook lessons. Students also focus on self application of knowledge learned from the Daybooks. Each year they read several novels and a Shakespearean play, enhancing skills studied in the daybook. Higher order thinking, essay writing, and open ended questioning are examined as well. Students learn to have valid opinions with relevant argumentative support! Oral communication skills are enhanced weekly through, speeches, presentations, and daily discussions. Vast technological skills are incorporated via short and long term researched, multi-faceted projects.
I have been teaching Language Arts at ARS for ten years now. The 2011-2012 school year, begins my sixteenth year as a English/Language Arts teacher. I consider it a great pleasure to teach at American Renaissance. As the Language Arts teacher, I strive to keep reading, writing, and grammar up to date, while encouraging deep thinking. Teaching Language Arts is my passion; one that I hope infects every child I teach! - Jill Hartle -
